Lompoc, Calif. – In a week in which just three players broke par on a demanding La Purisima Golf Course layout in Southern California, Scotland’s Jimmy Gunn put on a veritable clinic, posting rounds of 73-68-68—209 en route to a 7-under-par total, good for a six-shot win and the event’s $12,000 first-place prize.

Gunn, 34, entered Thursday’s final round at 3-under par – one shot clear of Jacob Rogers and Bradley Shigezawa.

The Dornoch native took control of the event early on day three, birdieing three of his first six holes to vault to 6-under par – three clear of Shigezawa and four clear of Rogers at the time.

A bogey on the par-3 ninth slowed his torrid roll somewhat, but back-nine birdies on 11 and 13 pushed him up to 7-under par and in dominant control of the event’s outcome.

Closing pars over his final five holes left Gunn with a final-round 68 and a 7-under-par tally, good for a video-game-like, seven-shot win over Larry Correa of Lompoc, Calif. and Matt Hansen of Los Osos, Calif.

Gunn now has seven top-15 finishes in eight starts this year, including a stretch of four consecutive top-10s ending in the La Purisima win. His $34,600 in overall earnings put him at No. 2 on the tour’s nationwide money list, trailing only two-time winner Scott Harrington ($41,228).

The eGolf Gateway Tour west coast series will be off next week before returning to action at Lone Tree Golf Club in Chandler, Ariz. on March 31 – April 2, 2015.
