Jensen Earns Exemption Into Price Cutter Charity Championship presented by Dr Pepper
Clint Jensen, winner of the Southern Open, earned an exemption into the Nationwide Tour
Kannapolis, NC – Clint Jensen of Jupiter, FL, via his win at the Southern Open, earned an exemption into the Nationwide Tour's prestigious Price Cutter Charity Championship presented by Dr Pepper.
The exemption was one of two unrestricted exemptions granted to the tour by the John Q. Hammons Foundation, the host organization for the Price Cutter Charity Championship. The first of the two exemptions went to the low participating player at this week's Southern Open, while the second will go to the low participating player at next week's Forest Oaks Classic.
Jensen, who survived a three-man playoff for the win and the spot, has played in Nationwide Tour events before and is only a month removed from competing in this year's U.S. Open.
"I've probably played five or six events out there (the Nationwide Tour). It's been a while though, so I'm excited," said Jensen.
As part of his exemption, Jensen will receive round-trip airfare to Springfield, MO, private housing for the week, and the opportunity to compete in up to five tournament pro-ams heading into tournament week – with each one paying him $350.
"We are certainly happy to have Clint receive the first exemption into the Price Cutter Charity Championship," said tour president David Siegel. "We are already looking forward to next week to see which deserving player will receive the second spot."
The Price Cutter Charity Championship is one of the oldest and most well-respected events on the Nationwide Tour. The tournament has been contested at Highland Springs since it's inception in 1990, making it one of only two Nationwide Tour courses to host an event in each year of the tour's existence. The tournament has produced a number of PGA TOUR players, including TOUR winners Stewart Cink, Chris DiMarco and Pat Perez.
"The eGolf Tour has built a reputation as the best developmental tour in the country – one that many Nationwide Tour players go to during their off weeks. We feel that we are only adding to the quality of our field with this exemption," said Jerald Andrews, Executive Director of the Price Cutter Charity Championship.
Jensen becomes the third eGolf Tour player to receive one of the tour's Nationwide Tour exemptions this year, joining Scott Brown and Kyle Dobbs, who each earned spots in the BMW Charity Pro-Am via their play this spring.
While Jensen knows some of the best players in the world are found on the Nationwide Tour, he is at the same time cognoscente of the quality of play on the eGolf Tour.
"If you play out here week in and week out, you're ready to play anywhere."
The Price Cutter Charity Championship will be contested on August 13-16. For more information on the tournament and their 42 designated children's charities that it supports, please visit www.pricecuttercc.org.
