eGolf Gateway Tour Announces Addition of Annual Spring Creek Classic to 2015 Schedule
By Stewart Moore
Charlotte, N.C. – The eGolf Gateway Tour announced today that award-winning Spring Creek Golf Club in Gordonsville, Va. will return to the tour’s 2015 schedule, with the annual Spring Creek Classic set for June 17-19, 2015.
As one of the tour’s longest-tenured tournaments dating back to the 2007 season, the Spring Creek Classic stands tall as one of the eGolf Gateway Tour’s most cherished events – with the stunning course serving as the centerpiece of one of the year’s most anticipated weeks.
The Ed Carton-designed course at Spring Creek opened to rave reviews in 2006 and was awarded Golf Digest's prestigious "Best New Course" honor in 2007. The immaculate venue cuts through native hardwoods and the Virginia countryside, while basking in a veritable hue of green most commonly associated with the game’s elite clubs.
The wall-to-wall bent grass conditions at Spring Creek provide without doubt the best playing surfaces of any developmental tour course in the country, and further cement the club as one of the best in the state of Virginia.
Awards earned by Spring Creek since the club’s opening in 2006 include:
• Golf Digest “Best New Affordable Public Golf Course in the United States” in 2007
• Golf Digest No. 58, “America’s Greatest Public Courses” in 2013
• Golf World “Readers Choice Award” No. 12, Top 50 Public Golf Courses in 2010
• Golf Digest “Top 100 Public Golf Courses” in 2011 – Ranked No. 70
• Golfweek “Readers Choice Award” – No. 2 Best Conditioned Public Course
• Golfweek “No. 1 Residential Public Course in Virginia” in 2012
“We have built a reputation on playing the best courses in the industry, and I think Spring Creek is at the top of that list,” said tour president David Siegel. “The conditioning from tee to green rivals that of any PGA TOUR venue, and the winners this event has put forth more than justify the praise we bestow on the club as a whole.”
Roberto Castro
The 2015 Spring Creek Classic will mark the tour's 10th trip to Spring Creek Golf Club, dating back to the event's 2007 edition and inclusive of two eGolf Tour Championships during that stretch.
The event has proved to be a springboard for success, with past champion Roberto Castro (2007, 2009) currently competing on the PGA TOUR, and winners Michael Sims (2008) and Matt Davidson (2008 Tour Championship) competing full-time on the Web.com Tour. Former Sony Open sensation Tadd Fujikawa won the tour's 2010 Tour Championship for his lone eGolf Tour title, while roommates Matt Ryan (2011) and Seamus Power (2012) have claimed two of the last four Spring Creek Classic trophies.
In 2013, former University of Virginia standout Bruce Woodall notched his first professional win just minutes down the road from campus, while 2014 saw former Virginia Tech Hokie and 2007 British Amateur champion Drew Weaver claim his first tour title in over two years.
“Since 2007, Spring Creek has delivered quality winners, year in and year out,” said Siegel. “That is perhaps the highest compliment we can pay to this event, and we certainly expect more of the same this June.”
Opening-round play at the Spring Creek Classic will begin on Wednesday, June 17th at 8:00 AM, with players competing in threesomes off of Nos. 1 and 10 tees. Following the conclusion of 36 holes, the field will be cut to the low 35 percent and ties for Friday’s final round of play. The tournament will be open to the public and free of charge.
