Bogota, Colombia – Four-time eGolf Gateway Tour winner Steve Marino continued his long journey back to the PGA TOUR on Sunday at the Web.com Tour’s Colombia Championship Presented by Claro. Long known as the best player on TOUR without a win, Marino battled a number of injuries over the years before dropping down to the TOUR’s developmental circuit in order to earn his way back up. The former University of Virginia star birdied the 72nd hole at host Bogota Golf Club to force a playoff with upstart rookie Patrick Rodgers before eventually losing out on the second hole of overtime.

Marino, who earned the first two wins of his career on the eGolf Gateway Tour in 2002 and later added two more (including the 2006 Gateway Tour Championship), opened his week with rounds of 67-67-64—198 (15-under) to seize a two-shot lead heading into Sunday’s final round.

A quick birdie out of the gate gave the affable South Florida native a four-shot lead, but a pair of follow-up bogeys on Nos. 4 and 7 led to an even-par 35 on his outward nine.

Rodgers, playing two groups ahead of Marino, turned in 4-under 32 before adding a birdie on the par-5 10th to vault to 15-under total – just one back of the former Wahoo, who added a matching birdie on No. 10 as well.

From there, Marino stalled, paring Nos. 11 through 17 to drop one shot back of Rodgers, who birdied 16 and 18 for a final-round 64 and the clubhouse lead at 17-under par.

At the last, Marino finally dipped into red figures again, converting a short birdie try to round out a final-round 69, in turn matching Rodgers at minus-17 and forcing a sudden death playoff.

After both players matched pars on the first extra hole, Rodgers stuck a 7-iron to 8 feet on the par-4 ninth to set up the winning birdie putt after Marino again missed a lengthy try.

The runner-up was worth $86,400 for Marino, who moved up to No. 3 on the Web.com Tour money list after missing the cut at the season-opening Panama Claro Championship. The top 25 players on the tour’s season-ending money list will automatically earn their 2015-16 PGA TOUR cards.

Web.com Tour rookie Andrew Yun, who won twice on the eGolf Gateway Tour in 2014, finished tied for third place at 15-under 269 – two shots outside the playoff.

The former Stanford star opened his week with an even-par 71, but rallied over the final three rounds to close in 67-66-65 en route to his first career top-5 on the Web.com Tour. Yun’s final-round 65 tied Rodgers and Greg Eason for the day’s low round.

• At the PGA TOUR’s Farmers Insurance Open, former eGolf Gateway Tour member and defending champion Scott Stallings finished tied for second after losing out to eventual winner Jason day in a four-man playoff. The Tennessee native overcame an opening-hole bogey on Sunday to post two birdies and an eagle on the par-5 13th for a 3-under 69 and the clubhouse lead at 9-under par. Stallings was joined by Day at 279 before J.B.
