Charlotte, NC – November 11, 2010 – The eGolf Professional Tour announced the release of their tentative 2011 schedule today, with 16 of 18 events solidified for a season in which the tour is expected to pay out over $4.2 million in prize money.
The 2011 season will begin in mid-February in the South Carolina Lowcountry with the second annual Palmetto Hall Championship, contested at both the Cupp and Hills Courses at Palmetto Hall Plantation on Hilton Head Island. The Cupp course opened in 1993 to rave reviews as an innovative design that quickly became known as one of the most demanding venues in the state of South Carolina. Proof of the course's difficulty can be found in the course rating of 75.2 and the slope rating of 149. Upon opening in 1991, the Hills course at Palmetto Hall was named one of Golf Digest's "Top 10 New Courses." Dotted with towering pines and moss-draped oak trees, the course winds throughout the native woodlands and is flanked by multiple ponds and lakes.
In March of 2011, the eGolf Professional Tour will become the first United States-based tour to conduct two stroke play events on the continent of Africa. The tour will host two $250,000, 120-player field events in the country of Morocco at both the Samanah Country Club (Marrakech, Morocco) and the Pullman Royal Golf Club (El Jadida, Morocco). Samanah is an award-winning Jack Nicklaus signature design golf course and is one of the country’s top venues. The seaside Pullman Royal Golf Club has long been the host to the Challenge Tour’s Moroccan Golf Classic, and is known worldwide for their three finishing holes that front the Atlantic Ocean.
Upon returning stateside, the tour moves to The Club at Irish Creek in Kannapolis, NC. A heralded Davis Love III re-design formerly known as Kannapolis Country Club, Irish Creek has twice played host to the North Carolina Open and is an annual host of the PGA TOUR’s Qualifying Tournament. In 2008, upon reopening, Irish Creek was ranked the No. 5 “Best New Private Course” in the United States by Golfweek.
The par-3 eighth at Irish Creek
Trips to St. James Plantation (Southport, NC) and Columbia (SC) Country Club highlight an April schedule that will lead into a popular stretch of PGA and Nationwide Tour events in the Southeast – none greater than the Wells Fargo Championship at venerable Quail Hollow Club, located just 5 minutes from tour headquarters in Charlotte, NC. During tournament week, the eGolf Tour will be one hour north of Charlotte in High Point, NC at the classic Willow Creek Country Club. A demanding Willard Byrd layout, Willow Creek hosted the LPGA Tour's Planters Pat Bradley International for 10 years - an event that was won six times by future LPGA Hall of Fame members, including Nancy Lopez, Betsy King and Patty Sheehan. In addition, the course has hosted 11 Carolinas Golf Association championships, including the prestigious Carolinas Amateur and North Carolina Amateur a combined five times.
At the conclusion of May, the tour returns to historic Pine Needles Resort in Southern Pines, NC. Pine Needles has twice hosted the eGolf Professional Tour, with current PGA TOUR player Tom Gillis winning the 2009 Pine Needles Classic, and current Nationwide Tour player Matt Davidson claiming the 2009 Tour Championship. The classic Donald Ross design is a three-time host of the United States Women’s Open (1996, 2001 and 2007) and will pair well with storied Southern Pines Golf Club – also a Donald Ross original.
The summer months feature a multitude of Charlotte area events, with trips to the Donald Ross-designed Country Club of Salisbury and Cowans Ford Country Club on the shores of pristine Lake Norman highlighting two June events. In July, the tour will return to The Club at Irish Creek for the seventh annual Southern Open, with exclusive River Run Country Club in Davidson, NC serving as the co-host of the event.
To cap off the month of July, the tour will make a maiden voyage to Aiken, SC and the Woodside Plantation Country Club. The tour will utilize both the Rees Jones-designed Wisteria Course and the Bob Cupp-designed Plantation Course for this inaugural event.
The par-5 fourth at Rock Barn
The regular season will conclude with a return visit to the greater Hickory, NC area and the Robert Trent Jones and Tom Jackson Courses at the Rock Barn Club & Spa. The Jones Course will serve as the main course for the tournament, as it also serves as the sole host of the Champions Tour’s Ensure Classic – an event that has produced winners such as Craig Stadler, Jay Haas and Andy Bean. The course opened in 2002 to rave reviews and was named the "No. 4 Best New Upscale Public Course" in the country by Golf Digest in 2003. In 2004, North Carolina Magazine named the Jones Course the "No. 1 Best New Course" in the state.
The par-4 14th at Spring Creek
Following the conclusion of the Rock Barn event, the tour will take a five-week hiatus before resuming for a three-tournament Fall Series in September and October. The second of those three tournaments will take place at the immaculate Spring Creek Golf Club in Gordonsville, VA – just outside of Charlottesville, VA. The course, which features wall-to-wall bent grass conditions, is known throughout the Southeast for its impeccable conditioning. In 2007, Spring Creek was named Golf Digest’s “Best New Public Course” in the United States.
