Charlotte, N.C. – Producers from Golf Channel’s hit series the “Big Break” will be onsite at the eGolf Tour’s Pine Needles Classic on Tuesday, March 13th from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM hosting casting tryouts for 2012 eGolf Tour members. The casting will be for the upcoming all-male season and will take place on the driving range of the famed Pine Needles Resort in Southern Pines, NC.
The Big Break show concept pits highly skilled golfers against each other in a variety of challenges that test their physical skills and mental toughness. Past Big Break champions have won tournament exemptions to compete on some of the world’s top professional circuits, including the PGA TOUR, Champions Tour, European Tour, LPGA Tour and Nationwide Tour. Several past Big Break competitors are currently competing on the world’s top tours, including three-time eGolf Tour winner Tommy “Two Gloves” Gainey, former eGolf Tour players Matt Every (PGA TOUR) and James Nitties (PGA/Nationwide Tour), as well as Kim Welch (Ladies European Tour) and Sara Brown, Gerina Mendoza, Ryann O’Toole (2011 U.S. Solheim Cup Team member) and 2009 U.S. Solheim Cup Team member Kristy McPherson all competing on the LPGA Tour.
eGolf Professional Tour players are no strangers to success and stardom on The Big Break. Gainey starred in two separate series while competing on the tour, and turned his win in “Big Break VII” into overnight fame and a PGA TOUR card later that fall. Other past and present tour players to enjoy success on the Big Break include Every, Nitties, Tony Finau, Hugo Leon, Blake Moore, Andrew Giuliani, Matt Vick, Kevin Taylor, Scott Yancy, Justin Peters, David Mobley, and William Thompson.
While producers will not reveal the location or top prize of this newest Big Break, past winners have claimed sponsor exemptions into PGA, Nationwide and European events, as well as cash, golf manufacturer’s contracts and cars.
The Pine Needles Classic will be a 72-hole event contested on March 14-17, 2012 at Pine Needles Resort and Seven Lakes Country Club. Pine Needles is a 1928 Donald Ross masterpiece that was restored by John Fought in 2004. The course has hosted the United States Women's Open three times (1996, 2001 and 2007) and is ranked annually as one of the country's best golf courses by virtually every publication. The classic layout is Ross at his best with docile tee shots and timid approaches to greens that fall off on virtually all sides.
Seven Lakes Country Club, which was awarded 4 stars from Golf Digest, was designed by Peter Tufts III, great-grandson of Pinehurst founder James Walker Tufts and the godson of course architect Donald Ross. The traditional layout features surprising elevation changes and demands precision off the tee. Past winners of this event include current PGA TOUR players Jason Kokrak (2011) and Tom Gillis (2009).
